The laptop bag maker Mobile Edge is partnering with the Boomer Esiason Foundation to help raise funds for cystic fibrosis awareness and research. Ten percent of the sales of the G-Pak backpack (at left) will go toward helping to fight the disease. The bag is named for Boomer's son Gunnar, who has cystic fibrosis. Mobile Edge plans to come out later with a deluxe version of the backpack, as well as a tote version for women. They're made with ballistic nylon and are well padded, to protect your laptop. You will be able to buy the G-Pak in June, for $69.95, at Mobile Edge's site or the Esiason Foundation's site (linked above). You'll earn some good karma points; and the bag's pretty snazzy-looking, too.

It's Blogging Molly (not to be confused with Flogging Molly) back with another Bluetooth headset. What I really like about the Jabra JX10 is that it's not "rightist"--you can wear it on either ear. I'm not a lefty myself, but I have a lot of buddies of the southpaw persuasion and I like to watch their backs. Anyway, I found the Jabra headset to be pretty handy. I'm not one to walk around with one of these things in my ear 24/7, but for occasional use, it's cool. And it's small enough that it doesn't look obnoxious. The sound is great--I called my mom and she had no idea I was using a wireless headset and we didn't have to shout to be heard, which is always nice. It's a little pricey, but worth it if you'll get a lot of use out of it. I found it for $129.99 at Hello Direct, and $119.99 at Amazon. As always, shop around!

Here at GearLog, we love to talk about LED lighting, especially mood lighting. You may remember me mentioning the OGGZ: color-morphing lights that glow and change colors. Well, here's a product that changes colors to the beat of your music. MobiNote Tech Corp will announce at the China Sourcing Fair (to take place April 15-18) its first egg-shaped illumination. Dubbed the Hipper 100, this device is equipped with an LED light that changes different colors to the beat of music when you plug in an USB device storing MP3s. The Hipper 100 also comes with a built-in speaker, so there's no need for an additional device to hear your music. According to the MobiNote Web site, the Hipper 100 can change into 10 colors "with different beats and rhythms automatically detected by the built-in MP3 Audio Chip. Different lights change rapidly with Hip Pop or dance music, while a slow motion takes turn to match romantic love songs." The device can even play music from external audio devices, such as an MP3 player, CD player, radio, voice recorder, etc. through the Line In Cable. There's no purchasing information available yet, but we'll let you know when you can be "hip" with the Hipper 100. [via Sci Fi Tech]

We witnessed rock and roll's past and the future of fuel; weird and wild paint jobs; and custom cars you'll probably never see on the street.

Concept cars telegraph automakers' intentions, and shows such as the New York International Auto Show (at the Javits Center in New York, April 14 to 23) give show goers a chance to provide feedback on their likes and dislikes. A year or two later, some aspects of a concept car may show up in production models, but with, say, more headroom, less-exotic dashboards, and realistic materials. Leather carpeting, for instance, is a nonstarter in a production vehicle.

Ever since I've joined the iPod lovin' masses, I've discovered a few new pratfalls. My wires are constantly getting caught on doorknobs and jerking me backwards. Or, sometimes when I get home from work, I'll throw my bag down on the couch, forgetting that my iPod's in there and I'm still attached to it--ouch! But lucky me got to test three pairs of Bluetooth headphones for PC Magazine. I checked out the Anycom Bluetooth Stereo Headset, the Iogear Wireless Stereo Headphone Kit, and the Wi-Gear iMuffs MB200. The Anycom and Iogear models work with any music player, while the iMuffs are iPod-only. My favorite set was the Iogear model (pictured at left), but they all had their perks. Another cool bonus is that you can control your music player from the headphones so you don't even have to reach into your pocket. That's what I'm talkin' about. If you're into going wireless, check out my complete roundup.

Devices keep getting smaller and smaller, don't they? Korean company ILJIN Display has been busy with designing an ultra small single LCD panel for digital projection. Traditional projectors use 3 LCD panels (red, green, and blue) to project what's on the screen; this new single LCD panel can combine all three panels so that projectors can be smaller in size and price. ILJIN Display's hard work and time paid off, because they are now finished with development, and hope to start production of the single LCD panels in September 2006. By January 2007, the company will produce single LCD panels for pocket digital projectors, and then in April 2007, making panels for cell phones. So what does this mean? Within the next couple of years, you may be watching movies on a screen in your home with your cell phone as the projector; and it doesn't stop there. Your PDA, PMP, digital camera, or laptop could be mini projectors, too. Pretty cool, huh? I just wonder about the whole technology behind it, and how it would actually work, like where is the sound produced, and will you have to store movies on your cell phone in order for them to be projected? This seems like a good idea: bringing your cell phone or PDA to your friend's house to watch a movie, instead of lugging a projector with you. [via New Launches]
