A box arrived for me from Verizon's PR firm today, with a wonderfully scary little robot-eye sticker on the side. Given that the Motorola Droid launch is coming on October 28, could this be the new phone? Head to the jump to see what happened when I unboxed the contents.
Is Verizon finally getting a sense of humor? This is clearly not the Droid I was looking for. But that little date card seems to add a clue to the mystery.

You know you're giving the pr flacks just what they wanted--cheap publicity.

Oh lay off, guys. It was funny, and at least it was relatively fresh.
I'm still chuckling at it...heh.

serious readers are serious!
Come on guys, "not the droid you're looking for?" That's funny. :D

No, this is a double-marketing ploy. You're being played.
LucasFilm trademarked the word "droid" some time ago. So they're doing a tie-in.
LucasFilm and Verizon both win a few hundred dollars worth of eyeballs for the cost of a small, cheap plastic toy. This is some straight up nostalgia-manipulation. It's not a sense of humor - it's cooly calculated.
Yeah, I'm a cynic but there ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

That is awesome, hilarious, and classy all at the same time. Droid has the right idea!

@loq, Welcome to good marketing. Even the comments you made are helping both Verizon and Lucas. You we're just played as well. ;)

On October 28, I'm thinking the little R2-D2 droid will project a hologram of Princess Leia in the middle of your living room with a message about the new Droid Phone leading to more mysterious clues!
