Cisco Systems this week announced the purchase of Tanberg. The computing giant purchased the Norway-based video conferencing company for a cool $3 billion.
Tandberg specializes in high-end video conferencing units smaller than the models currently sold by Cisco. "It really enables us to build out our portfolio," Cisco senior vice president Ned Hooper said of the deal. The acquisition values Tanberg at 11 percent over its Wednesday closing price.

I think this is an excellent move by Cisco - They were partnered till now with Polycom to complete their UC portfolio... but as you might expect this would have been quite a separate component to integrate in to the UC portfolio... Tandberg has an excellent line of products and is quite good when it comes to quality too... I was quite sceptical when Tandberg was not partnering with any VOIP vendors but trying to bring its own communication switches, so I guess this deal makes sense for them as well...

Bad news for Radvision.
This may give LifeSize more play in the market. Especially with their new Skype compatible product. Way cheap and will help video conferencing become accepted.
