Voudriez-vous le Zune HD? Tough luck, I'm afraid.
According to Ars Technica, Microsoft has no plans to sell the Zune HD outside the United States, apparently ceding the market to Apple. That doesn't mean that the situation will remain like that forever, but Microsoft tells Ars:
"For the time being the Zune HD device will remain US-only," a
Microsoft spokesperson said. "Right now we are focused on deploying
an exciting service in the form of Zune Video
to 18 markets. We are looking at potential future hardware experiences
for these markets, but do not have anything to announce right now."
Now, it's somewhat true that one needs the skill of a lawyer to interact with technology companies these days; what's left unsaid can be as important as what is stated, alluded to, hinted, implied, referred to... well, you get the idea. So it's entirely possible that Microsoft won't ship the Zune HD outside the United States because, you know, they haven't announced it. But we're willing to accept what Microsoft is telling Ars at face value and accept that, possibly because the Zune's market share is a faint shadow of the iPod's, that the Zune will only be for les Americains for now.

Whoa, not even in Canada? o_O
That sucks, especially for some of my friends across the border who are itching for one. Looks like they'll have to cross, buy one, and then flee for home!

all suckers line up for another product using the "HD" name to sell there product.Your not going to tell the difference between 480p and 1080p on a screen that small! DUH!
September 13, 2009 2:51 AM
*shrugs* Its 16 and 32GB in size. Too small for anything other then a small audio collection and a couple seasons of something at best.
dear MS. Release a Zune HD with a HD and put a real rating system in place and then lets talk. Until then I'm "stuck" on my 120GB iPod.

James,
You sir are an idiot. The HD is for the video that the device can output and that the radio receiver in the device is HD. Not what is on the screen.
James's Brain meet james's fingers. Fingers, brain. fingers go work with James's brain before you go off half cocked on a forum. M'kay?

Whta i'm concerned is that whether I have to switch to the Zune DRM Removal to approach pure .wma music .wmv video from the Zune Marketplace or convert iTunes iPod library to the Zune HD

I'm furious! I am in the market for a large (80GB+) MP3 player because I want to put all my music on it and carry it around. My options? iPod Classic. That's it. ONE device. And Apple certainly isn't my first choice because iTunes on Windows is terrible. OK there are some expensive media players (Archos, Cowon) around with that much space, but for music? It's iPod or nothing. There's a HUGE gap in the market and no-one is bothering to try challenging Apple.

I just could not believe that they do it gain. The original Zune did not create threat to iPod just because their marketing strategy – only available in limited countries. This time they decide to only available in US. As a global player like Microsoft, they have the advantage in penetrating anywhere they want. Big mistake Microsoft! It is time for you to change your marketing strategy team.

Needs more storage space. 1 hour HD video will eat up to 4 GB of space on the drive. So if you want to have say the Lord of the Rings Trilogy on the lower end Zune, you are outta luck. In the era of Terabyte hard drives, releasing products with just 16 GB of space should be an embarrassment. This means you too Apple!
