apple logo.jpgWe're knee-deep in the summer news cycle, which means that the big stories are few and far between. It also means that it's time for our favorite perennial tech rumors to start bubbling up again. Like, say, the long-rumored Apple Tablet, which has since become lovingly known as "the iPad."

We don't know a lot about the device, of course. In fact, we don't actually whether it's actually really a device at all. We've heard tell that it'll have a 10-inch touchscreen, and some speculation about pricing, which has been wildly varied. So we figured, why wait for Apple to let us in on the details? That could take forever.

Let's design on our own device. What would it take to put one of these devices in your hands, come October? Pricing, features, size, whatever. We want to know.

- An ATSC tuner (for TV Broadcasts) would be nice; I live in a hurricane-prone area, and would love to be able to pick up broadcast signals if there's a power failure. The portable TV market has practically disappeared since the DTV switch, and this would fill that void to some degree.

- all the stuff mentioned by previous posters.

None of the devices proposed above are remotely plausible. They are wish-for devices.

I think the iTab will be 5" diagonal, which is two current 3.5" screens put together. It will fold, meaning that the current pocketable formfactor will be kept. Keeping the iTab to component parts Apple is already familiar with, will keep the price in the $600 range, unsubsidized.

The bottom line is that the device is highly portable, actually pocketable, unlike the 10" behemoths proposed. It'll be cheap enough to be bought in the millions, unlike a 10" multitouch device would be. The screen will be available in large numbers from suppliers, unlike the 10" screen. It'll be less likely to be dropped. It'll have about the same number of pixels as the first Kindle, which is plenty with a multitouch screen for ebooks, and anything else. And, a 5" screen made of two current iPhone screens, is VGA sized. Perfect for all the SD content currently in the iTunes Store.

1. 9-10" multitouch screen
2. Running Mac OS (I don't want a big iPhone)
3. 3G, Wifi, bluetooth, 2 USB ports, iSight
4. thickness somewhere between the Macbook Air and current tablet PC offerings.
I'd be willing to pay $600-800 ($400-600 with 3G Contract)
It would be great if a ebook reader was added to the iLife family, licensed from amazon.
Probably won't see a tablet from Apple but with the popularity of netbooks now is the Time if they are gonna do it.

How about this: Apple teams and Michael Arrington teamed up and they have developed the Apple CrunchPad?
