Bob Dylan, the musical voice of his generation, could the voice of your next car navigation system or portable navigation device (PND). He said so himself this week on his BBC satellite radio program, that he's negotiating with two automakers to be the voice behind their navigation systems. Take that, James Earl Jones. Dylan certainly has enough lyrics to his credit that, with several decades hindsight, foreshadowed the GPS revolution: "how many roads," "no direction home," and "there must be someway out of here." (Be sure to post any we forgot below in feedback.)
Worried that Bob Dylan's sellling out? Not to worry. If it happened, it was long before the navigation opportunity. As the Washington Post noted, he's done commercial work for Cadillac, Pepsi, and Victoria's Secret. In a 2007 commercial for the Cadillac Escalade, Dylan asked, "What's life without the occasional detour?"

don't forget "I'm on the dark side of the road" and "I drove down 42nd street, in my Cadillac."

"I'm ready to go anywhere" on startup. "I'm ready for to fade" on powerdown. "Ancient, empty streets, too dead for dreaming"

This is foe Bob Dylan, If you can get this to him, as talking about GPS Systems, I have a Navigon 2100 and I havn't use is hardly any and I tried to use it the other day and I put in part of the directions, then it just froze up, as now it will not do anything, so if anyone know why this happened to my GPS System, and know what that I can do to get it going for me, then let me know. B.B.

How the hell would you be able to understand his directions?? By the time he got them out you would be miles off course.

His music appreciate audience back in the 60's were so stoned they did not know he could not sing. Still can't. Let us know what auto makers are using his voice, so I won't buy that car.

It was a joke. He introduced a song on his Sirius shown and used the idea strictly tongue in cheek.

I think that would be so cool. Bob Dylan is such a creative talent. Also I wonder if people know that the twang in his singing voice was a knock at the 60's music industry at first but everyone of his fans liked it. he also wrote or co-wrote alot of our generations music. Who loves ya Bob!

I own this GPS. What I like most is that it has me stop at every 7-11 and get a microwave burrito and grape slurpee.

Bob Dylan *can not* sell out. There is just to much substance for the McDonalds of the world to buy up. Contrary to most current.... oh, nevermind.

You guys missed the obvious joke in this-- will the GPS play his song,
"Most Likely You'll Go Your Way, (and I'll Go Mine)"
The LAST person to say "turn right and go 3 miles" has got to be Bob Dylan --- or maybe his winds blow another way, nowadays.
September 1, 2009 12:15 AM
As you miss the turn and drive over the cliff it'll sing, "It's all over now baby blue" Or perhaps "Ther's something happening here, but you don't know what it is. Do you Mr. Jones? "

I can imagine listening to Bob Dylan's voice could be an experience that was not so bad. Some of the other GPS systems have voices that give you nightmares in your sleep. I personally believe that ours is not so bad and you have the ability to track the device from the computer.

X5 navigation device is complete dispatch system allowing you to route and track the driver under one system.
