A report flitting around the Internet today has Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster speculating that the Apple iPhone may come to new carriers in the US in 2010. This would be news, except that it's been speculated many times before. Let's review.

The Wall Street Journal said in April that AT&T's exclusivity deal for the iPhone expires in 2010 and that AT&T is trying to extend it to 2011.

USA Today also speculated in April that the iPhone would come to Verizon in 2010.

Om Malik said the iPhone will probably come to Verizon's LTE network (which means, probably, 2011.)

So, thanks, Mr. Munster, but you're a few months late. For what it's worth, I agree with Om; Apple isn't interested in making a phone for the CDMA technology, and the only US carrier other than AT&T that they have their sights set on is Verizon Wireless. That makes the iPhone a prime flagship launch device for Verizon's upcoming 4G LTE network - which means most likely waiting for a broad LTE rollout in 2011.
