I admit it: I'm a proud Wal-Mart shopper. Where else can you buy MP3 players, car tires, steak, and clothes for less; get your eyes checked; pay for a haircut; do banking; and meet your favorite author? So, you can probably imagine that I'm excited to challenge Wal-Mart to my TechSaver Test.
The company's motto is "Always Low Prices," which is a pretty bold statement. Its "rollbacks" are what the store refers to as significant savings. I wanted to look at some of these new rollbacks on electronics and determine whether Wal-Mart always has the lowest prices. Today's test will feature the Acer Aspire One (10-inch), the Kodak EasyShare M1033, the SimpleTech 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive, and the Philips Home Theater Audio System w/ Upconverting DVD Player & iPod Dock.
Find out if it's smart to shop at Wal-Mart, after the jump.
Acer Aspire One (10-inch, Ruby Red)
(Regularly $348; Now $328)--Bad Deal!
Free shipping to store
PCMag Editor Rating: 4/5 stars
When PCMag Laptop Analyst Cisco Cheng reviewed the Aspire One netbook back in February, he found that it had incredible battery life. This netbook features a 160GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, and an Intel Atom N270 processor. Wal-Mart is only giving consumers $20 off the original price, so there's gotta be a better option. Sure enough, you can point your mouse to Amazon, where the online retailer is selling the Aspire One for $322.28 with free shipping
.
Kodak EasyShare M1033
(Regularly $129; Now $114.88)--Good Deal!

PCMag Editor Rating: 4/5 stars
A 10-megapixel point-and-shoot for $115? That seems like a steal to me. Plus, the Kodak EasyShare M1033 gives outstanding daylight shots, offers 720 HD resolution movie recording, and has an easy-to-use menu system. Can the budding photographer get a better deal elsewhere? Nope! Good deal verified.
SimpleTech 1TB USB 2.0. External Hard Drive
(Regularly $104.88; Now $99.73)--Good Deal!
Free shipping to store
I love when 1TB hard drives are on sale. This model features Fabrik Ultimate Backup for local backup of files, a security lock slot, and free technical support. It measures 10.5 by 9.1 by 4.1 inches. Don't get me wrong--this is an awesome deal, but you have to pay for shipping if you want it delivered to your home. If you're having a lazy day and don't feel like taking a trip out to Wal-Mart, you can order it online at Buy.com for $100.24
, with free shipping. However, I'm still labeling this as a good deal.
Philips Home Theater Audio System w/ Upconverting DVD Player & iPod Dock
(Regularly $198; Now $178)--Good Deal!
Free shipping to store
Home theater systems can be costly, but if all you're looking for is a system that easily works with your DVD player and iPod, this Philips model is for you. It has scored many positive reviews on Walmart.com, too. With this system you get four satellite speakers, an iPod dock, a remote control, FM antenna, two AAA batteries, and a CVBS video cable. What else do you get? An awesome price! Good deal verified.

Lol I like this article. I got a good deal last year on a Toshiba laptop for $425 (total price with tax) at Walmart. Came with a nice big harddrive and 2g of ram. Nice little machine in my humble opinion :).
