mytouch-blog.jpgThe T-Mobile/HTC MyTouch 3G, introduced today and shown at left, won't be T-Mobile's last Google Android phone this year, T-Mobile CTO Cole Brodman said at the phone's launch event today.

But the HTC Hero, widely considered to be the MyTouch/Magic/Ion's follow-up, may not be on T-Mobile's lineup. (The MyTouch has a lot of names. It was introduced as the HTC Magic in February, and we did a hands-on with the same phone when it was called the Google Ion back in May.)

"We don't currently have any plans to bring the HTC Hero to market," Brodman said.

Of course, the Hero isn't the only upcoming fish in the Android sea. It's just the most impressive and highly-customized Android phone we've seen so far. Samsung has already introduced their Galaxy Android phone in Europe, and other manufacturers including Motorola have pledged phones before the end of the year.

"We'll have more Android products out this year, but make no mistake, [the MyTouch] is our first and our real big bet for 2009," Brodman said.

One interesting hint about T-Mobile's Android direction came when Brodman said "more smartphones, feature phones and mobile computing devices" with Android will "appear in the marketplace."

So far, mobile carriers have been discussing Android as a smart phone operating system. But I've felt for a while that it has strong potential to take over the high end of the non-smart-phone market, replacing the older OSes on devices like Verizon's excellent LG EnV Touch. It looks like T-Mobile may be looking in some of the same directions as well.

Wait - if T-Mobile doesn't get it, who will? Sprint? AT&T? Certainly not Verizon? That is, assuming it'll come to the United States at all...

T-mobile sucks. Android software is such a nice software but T-mobile is unable to utilize it.
