Earlier today Apple released an announcement from Steve Jobs stating that, five days after it was first made available to the public, the company's iPhone 3.0 software had been downloaded an impressive 6 million times--that number, of course, is in addition to the more than one million people who have picked up an iPhone 3G S in the past three days.

With those kinds of number, it only figures some number of users would run into issues with the new software. We put a call out on this site over the weekend, asking users what their experiences have been, thus far.

While there some messages that suggested otherwise, the majority of the responses we got seemed to suggest that the iPhone 3.0 software works well when pre-installed on the new 3G S. When users download and install it themselves on older versions of the handset, however, things are apparently taking a decidedly different turn.

We received a number of reports from users point to issues with their phones' battery life, slowed speeds, and crashing or a generally inability to run certain apps. A reader named Gary reported that, "[i]t drains my battery in a few hours even if I am not using it." Tom had slightly better luck, writing, "my battery also drains in one day. It used to last three days."

A number of speed issues were reported amongst users, many of whom have considered reverting the software back to its 2.2 iteration. Meanwhile, reader Dave tells us, "most of my iphone apps stopped working after downloading the new 3.0 software on my iPhone 3G." Jason added, "Also Facebook always locks up and won't allow me to move to the desired tab."

Hopefully we'll be seeing a 3.1 version of the software soon that addresses most or all of these problems.

It's true. I have a first generation iPhone and the battery went totally flat in SIX hours yesterday. Without me using it at all. But I've noticed, it's fine if I have Wi-Fi turned off.

Be sure you have updated to the latest version of all your apps. Many were updated especially for 3.0.

After the 3.0 upgrade, my iPhone now rus hot and drains the battery in 4 hours. Wiping teh iPhone solves the prolem but restoring the apps back brings the problem back. As best as I can tell it is related to email. If I disable all email functionality, it seems to suck way less. I am continuing to investigate.

Yes, I am having the same issue. I upgrade to 3.0 and the battery life diminishes fairly quickly and it overheats. What gives?

Dowloaded 3.0. Wi0Fi and Bluetooth disabled. Seems to be a problem shared by others on other boards. Due to get replacement phone today. Also noticed in last couple of days that the battery runs down. Because of wi-fi and bluetooth problems have been using the phone less than usual but battery runs down very quickly.

Recently, Just the other day I uploaded the new software suite. I immediately noticed that my battery life was greatly diminished. I used to be able to get nearly two days off of one charge with normal usage, now, the battery drains in less than 8 hours. I have deleted apps and turned of the Wi-Fi, and the battery still runs down. Very frustrating. If I wipe the phone clean, and then reload from my itunes (contacts, music, apps, etc.) the problem will come back with it. What to do?

My phone was fully charged when I got home in Las Vegas from a 4 hour drive from Los Angeles. Had a 15 minute conversation before hitting the sack and freaked out finding 6 1/2 hours later when I woke up when my phone wouldn't turn on. It was drained to the bone. Almost missed work because guess what I use for my alarm...

Same with me. I restored to factory firmware 3.0 twice on my iPhone 2G and even with WiFI, Bluetooth, and push notifications off, I get about 6 hours of battery life standby as opposed to about 2.5 days on 1.1.4. (I upgraded from 1.1.4) My phone runs very warm to the touch and a great deal of lag is present in the applications.

I may have to jailbreak and ssh in so I can run 'top' and see what is using my CPU so intensely.

I have a iPhone 2G, now running 3.0 OS. I've gone from full charge, to heat up and drain in less than 4 hours wiht 2.2 (or whatever) to over a day of battery life with 3.0. I even purchased a replacement battery the morning of the 3.0 update that I won't need now! Whatever it did - I like 3.0.

Posted by: Matthew Potter
June 23, 2009 12:51 PM

I use my iPhone as an alarm clock in the morning. 2.1.1 used to drop about 8% battery overnight with no bluetooth. Now with 3.0, it drops +20%! This is with the same network and configurations.

Something up and it's not the location services because I just tested last night with the service turned off and the same thing (if not a bit more) happened.

Just curious...do any of you that are having issues have a 3G? I haven't noticed any significant difference with the 3.0 software on my 3G in terms of battery life or speed. I have never been able to get more than a day out of my phone anyway, but I have always had my email set to check every hour so that may be why. 3 days would be unheard of for me, no matter what version of the OS I was running.

It's funny I come across this article as I went through the same thing. After spending 2 days, I figured out the problem.

In short, it's the Push syncing option that is killing the battery and draining CPU making the phone slow and unresponsive.

I spent days reinstalling from a restore and also clean, then testing things out on my fairly new 3G. I'd add things one at a time and test thoroughly after each. As soon as I setup my Google Calendar, the phone slowed down. I uninstalled GC, rebooted and problem solved. After a bit more testing, as soon as I switched Push syncing off, phone was perfect. I don't have any other Push accounts on my phone, so I can't confirm if it's Push in general, or Google's Push that is causing the problem, but 100% it is the Push syncing. A friend was also having the same problem, and confirmed as soon as he switched to Fetch from Push, the problem went away.

Just a heads up to look into it.

I had the same problem with the battery until I turned off push notification under settings, mail, then rebooted. It was running warm and battery life was terrible before that. Now it seems to be the same as with 2.2

Really? I have the iPhone 3g and the 3.0 OS and I'm seeing longer battery life and better speed than ever before.

(now if apple would just include those software-only features like voice-command and video recording, that would be GREAT)

1st Gen iPhone with 3.0 software and no problems with battery life or slow down. The phone in general actually feels better going between menus and stuff. I have wifi enabled all the time and when I am at home it connects to my wifi network. Still getting the same battery life as before.

My iPhone 3G has been running the same as it did before upgrading to OS 3.0. Depending on Internet usage it ranges from 1.5 to 3 days if I let it run completely down. I have the brightness at a good level, email checks every 15 minutes, and WiFi is always on. Also, I haven't experienced any app crashes or any slowdowns that I can think of.

I have a 3G phone and have the same battery performance as before. I have never used push email so I may have not noticed any issues with that. I also use yahoo mail and not gmail. A friend of mine has the 2G and has been using 3.0OS since Beta 5 came out and he loves the new upgrade. I don't think that he uses push either though. I prefer pull anyways (at least then I can claim I didn't know that someone had sent me a mail as I hadn't checked my mail for a while ;)).

I disagree, I've had absolutely no problems with 3.0 on my iPhone 3G.. in fact I've got a few days where the battery hasn't even gone down 25% in a day and I'm using it all the time. My apps are working fine, just make sure you update them all because many have new versions for the 3.o software.

I have a 1st gen iphone, upgraded to OS 3.0. It started giving me the Sad iPhone screen all the time, crashing for no reason, even if it was in my pocket doing nothing. I would turn it on and it starts with the Sad iPhone. I wiped and reinstalled the OS 3.0 and I haven't had problems since. Maybe just a bad install the first time around?

Where my battery would last 2 days before, I now am at half by 1pm.

I've had no problems from 3.0 and my battery life seems to be exactly the same. Push e-mail, Google calendars, all that ilk. I'm on 3G all day, too, not wifi. I haven't noticed any crashes in applications that I can attribute to the upgrade.

@Ben Dalton: Video recording and voice command are both hardware features, relying on hardware not included in the 3G handset. This is not to say that Apple COULDN'T have offered a software-only solution to provide these features, merely that, as implemented in the 3.0 OS, the features are reliant on 3GS hardware.

I have a 8GB 3G and agree with the folks who think their batteries are lasting longer. Mine seems to as well. I do not use 'push' though.

Also, when I installed 3.0, iTunes wouldn't complete syncing for me. (Something about an 'unknown error' (I forget the number).) I went through the debug process (uncheck things to sync until it goes away), and determined that it was music sync. So I removed my iTunes music folders, and then re-created them from scratch - then re-sync'd. It works now.

I have a first gen, and I immediately felt the button response rate and switching between applications plummet. The frustration I feel on the "1-one thousand 2-one thousand" wait count between responses is enough to give me an aneurysm. I LIVE on this phone, so I am really familiar with it's behavior, and I am NOT happy. :( Really want a 3GS, but I'm trying to last as long as possible because I need to buy other things right now! Interestingly enough, battery hasn't seemed to really be an issue - and I sync with gmail. Then again, I am used to draining my phone due to near constant use.

Try disabling the Notification "PUSH" used by apps to pop-up alerts.

-Settings

-select "Off".

Several 3.0 apps built in this notification push - so it is always on - eating your battery.

Um... so am I the only one that actually had a huge battery life improvement with my 16GB 3G? It used to only last about a day before I was in the red, but its been three days and it only just hit the red and just started charging it. Facebook whined until I got the upgrade and then I removed it when others mentioned that it was the reason that it took so long to backup my phone. I use GMail with push turned on and fetching every 15 minutes for apps that don't support push. Wifi and bluetooth are turned off.

June 23, 2009 1:58 PM

The problem with the battery life is the following:
For some reasons cached network data sored by 2.2 doesn't work well with 3.0. The phone tries to connect all the time to the WiFi networks and when fails reverts to 3G which drains the battery.
Please delete the network cache from Settings/General/Reset/Reset Network Settings
It solves the mystery.
One problem is that you need to enter stored passwords again.

You know what's weird about it?

I installed it on my iPhone First Gen, and I went to the App Store. A new feature I saw was the ability to customize the bottom toolbar. I removed "Categories" and put down "Updates." I go back the next day, and it's set back to the default in 2.2. So instead of reading the new 3.0 OS version, it reads "Featured" "Categories" "Top 25" "Updates". "More" is gone...

What I have found with the new 3.0 is that it takes forever for the sync to do it's "back up" even before the sync even starts. I have a 16 gb with about 14 gb used so far but it never took this long before 3.0.

Let me preface my comments by saying that until this past March I was a veteran 10-year Blackberry dude. My wife convinced me to try the iPhone and after about 8 hours with my 3G/16GB iPhone I was totally hooked. "Gaga" is probably a better description.

Anyway I downloaded 3.0 the first afternoon it was available, for my 3G/16GB iPhone. I made sure all apps were up to date, did a backup and crossed my fingers.

Lots of lockups, "No service", "Cannot connect with the iPhone", etc. I finally got everything cooking in the same pot. A few hickups since, but I have not experienced any noticiable battery issues. And I use Push on 6 different email accounts and leave wifi and BT running 24-7.

I did notice that my screen reverted to 50% brightness, when I normally have it set on like 15%. That would tend to decrease battery life but I quickly adjusted it back down to 15%. Email acted weird for about a half a day then seemed to sort itself out.

One unsuual quirk I have noticed is 3.0 appears to be a memory hog. I use the app "Free Memory" and notice that whereas before I would average about 15MB free whenever I checked, now I am averaging less than 5MB free. I use Free Memory's cleanup function and its good again for several hours.

Cut-n-paste is cool, as is Search. Haven't really experimented with much of the rest of the new features. Bottom line, for me: iPhone still rules.

Having battery issues as well (which is why I came here). My phone has been lasting about 4-7 hours untethered from my pc. I used to never have it power down. Now if I set an alarm to wake myself up, I can bank on my phone being dead when I wake up.

I really hope this gets addressed quickly. I've never had these issues before I updated.

I noticed my iPhone was draining completely overnight with 3.0 just installed. Based on tips on this page I did a measurement with GoogleCal push enabled and disabled (no push mail or contacts).

iPhone 3.0 (1st gen) battery drain with push GoogleCal enabled : 13-14% /hour, with push GoogleCal disabled : 3-4% /hour (quick measurement, phone doing nothing, no screen or msg activity, lying in the same spot)

After upgrading to iPhone 3.0 software I noticed my battery was being used up much more rapidly. Before I would get like 2-3 days on standby from one charge
and now it wouldn't even last 1 day.

After checking around I was finally able to trace the the problem to Settings / Mail /
Fetch New Data / Push feature being On by default. Once I turned this feature Off my battery life returned to normal again. Also change Fetch to Manually if you don't use email.

It actually tells you on that screen: "For better battery life Fetch less frequently."

I got exactly the same thing on my first gen 2g. Upgraded to iPhone 3.0 a couple of days ago. Ever since, my battery life is about 6 hours, the phone is always dead when I wake up in the morning. It also doesn't seem to ever fully charge. I can leave it there in the dock for 8 hours, and is still not giving a full-battery reading.

It also has problems receiving certain calls. Especially land lines!!

Been trying to "downgrade" but with no luck. Been putting the phone into recovery mode, then using the alt-click on restore button to recover from my previous software, but iTunes just delivers an error message....

What a nightmare....

I purchased an I phone 3GS on release day from Carphone warehouse and I love it. The only problem I was facing was crazy battery drain ! I followed all the tips Wi-Fi off Bluetooth off Brightness down Push Email off, 3G off etc, but nothing helped. Then I discovered the problem, Tap Tap Revolution 2's Push notification ! As soon as I took this off (the whole app) my battery has increased with everyting switched back on dramatically. I could watch it drain 3% in 5 mins of use, now i have been on 100% for over an hour !

I hope this was just bad coding in the TTR2 app, and that not all applications that are set to use push notification (IM +, AIM etc), will cause crazy battery drain !!!

I have this issue with the battery. I just got off the phone with Apple and they originally wanted to blame it on an old battery (I have the 3G). I told them highly unlikely and they either wanted me to send it in to them or drive an hour to the nearest Apple store to have them test. Apparently AT&T will not troubleshoot any iphones. On top of it all. If they blame it on the battery it will cost $80 bucks to replace or I can get an additional one year warranty for $69 that covers the battery. Also my warranty runs out in 16 days and doesn't cover the battery. What a racket. And my phone is NOT jailbroke.

Solution iPhone 3.0 Battery drain:

Go to settings > Mail, contacts, Calenders> Fetch New Data> Turn off Push > Advanced > Turn all your email accounts and Calenders to Manual.

Whenever you want to download emails to your iPhone you have to click refresh(arrow button on the bottom of the screen).

I have done this. I have longer battery life that I can go two to three days without charging my phone.
I have location services turned on and that does not affect my battery life.

My upgrade of 2G went smoothly. I have to keep the phone on to receive calls. If I put it on sleep mode it does not respond. I had this problem earlier, at that time I solved it by renaming the power list called plist in the system directory to plist2. I think Apple has in saving power not debugged this for the 1st Generation phones. I am waiting for some software specialist to guide us how to change this in the 3.0 upgrade. I think this will also resolve battery issues.

I have 1st generation iphone and updated to ver 3.0 OS. Immediately after update to 3.0 phone running hot and battery life cut nearly in half. I tried suggested workarounds related to PUSH but did not help or at least not for long. What I did find was that processes including Safari, Mail, and Settings were running after I had exited them (and with settings for mail set to Fetch and Manual). If Safari or Mail is run, it stays active i.e. daemon after exiting it. I can kill the process and then things run good again, battery life ok and performance good. I have never looked at how Safari and Mail processes run before, but this looks strange and killing them definitely resolved the performance issues for me. Of course its no solution, but might point to the problem/solution.

[iPhone 3G 8 - push notification and location off]

I noticed a slowdown after installing the 3.0 upgrade. I checked t memory usage and found I was routinely running with less 2 G free. Previously this number would run around 8-10 G.

I haven't noticed any big difference in battery life either way. I usually turn off ATT service in the evening. WiFi can run overnight without draining the battery overmuch.

In my experience, the screen is a big drain. If you are prone to playing games on your iPhone, expect to charge it frequently ...

i have all iphones in possession.
All 3.0 updated and all have battery problems. 2G iphone being the worst. Just having a mere 5-6 hours and its dead. 3G and S are doing slightly better but certainly not like 2.2.1. Its being over a week already and this is a pretty big issue. Having like 4 hours active time on a phone is like having no phone.... apple needs to come up with a update fast! Real fast!

iPhone 3G with 3.0. Push on for MobileMe, hourly fetch for other accounts, location services on, wifi on. So far I've been going anywhere from 12-36 hrs between charges depending on how long I play games/surf web. Friends with 3.0 issues did a full factory reset from the phone, then applied the 3.0 update, then restored data, all was well.

I have an iphone 3G (not the S) and I have noticed a huge difference in the batery life. I can alomst watch the little green bar go down, it drains so fast! Also many of my apps would not work after installing 3.0, I had to delete and reinstall them to get them to work.

Upgraded my previous generation iphone to 3.0. It got hot and drained within 4-6 hours. Took it to my local apple store and they exchanged it for a new one, same model. I upgraded the new phone to 3.0 and restored my settings from my iphone backup. The new phone got hot and drained within 4-6 hours. Conclusion... don't upgrade old model iphones to 3.0 until this issue is reolved...

I upgraded my software to 3.0 and lost all but one of the Apps I had downloaded, including ones I had paid for. Additionally, my phone runs hot and slow.

I have an iPhone 3G, 16 gb. I've had a lot of problems since upgrading to 3.0. I wiped the phone and reinstalled - same issues. The problems are related to heat - as some others have mentioned - I notice that the phone heats up quite a bit when performing certain operations (such as listening to mp3's in my pocket).

The biggest annoyance in the email - man they really screwed it up. About 4 times a day it gets stuck on the "Sending Email..." state, which slows down the whole phone to a drag. In fact, if you try to record a message with the new fancy voice recorder and send it, the phone basically becomes unusable for 10 minutes or so while it trys and fails to send an attached mp3 file.

Lag when paging between screens on the phone is noticeably slow as well. It's pretty crappy that this is happening - come on Apple, there's only like 3 different versions of the iPhone out there, how hard is it to test? Maybe this is their subversive way of forcing us all to upgrade to a 3GS (conspiracy theory)...

i just got my 3g iphone and the battery life was bad allready and when i did the upgrade 3.0 software the battery was worse and got real hot even when i charged it, if i knew all this about the 3g iphone, i would never had gotten one, i,ve never had a cellphone drain battery as the iphone! uh, i can use my iphone for 30 min and the battery is gone!!! what a mess, wished i never got one!!!

I have 3G and downloaded 3.0 software. I have noticed that it takes a lot longer to open up Text messaging, calendar, photos, contacts, etc. It is pretty annoying that it somehow reverted to slower times with an "update" ! Battery life seems to be fine.

Upgraded wife's first generation iPhone and am experiencing the extreme battery life problems even with phone in plane safe mode. Is there a way to revert to the previous OS?

I have a 3G iPhone that I bought last August, upon downloading the new 3.0 software my phone has nearly come to a halt. It constantly locks up and when I am listening to the iPod it will sometimes quit playing or will even make an odd noise and then switch to a completely random song by a different artist. It is quite frustrating... I do not like the new software personally it has more pros than cons.

My 1st Gen iPod Touch is virtually unfit
I charged my iPod overnight (so i had 100% battery in the morning) and in the morning I was on safari and listening to music. After about 30 minutes my iPod was on 60% battery!!!!!!
I cant go on apps and listen to music at the same time, because the battery drains about 1% every minute doing both
This has really pissed me off, and if someone has the solution please post it here. My email is Harry.Button@gmail.com so if anyone finds the solution to the battery drainage please email me. I will be very grateful. I don't know if this makes a difference or not but my iPod is jailbroken, running 3.0 with Icy, Cydia and Installer (which i am going to delete as it is being discontinued). I have bossprefs, SBSettings, numeric battery (which isn't very accurate), FCSB, Five Icon Dock, and 2 and 1/2 pages of apps (but 5 apps per row, due to FCSB) including mail, calender, clock, youtube, music, photos, cydia, icy etc.(so 2 and 1/2 pages in total)
But my battery drains super quickly ever since I updated to 3.0

I have a iphone 3g, since i updated to 3.0 the battery drained in about 6-8 hours. Before the update, the battery lasted up to 3 days.

I had the same issue and decided to download a different copy of the 3.0 firmware and restore my iphone. I have a 2G 8GB iphone. After installing and then Jailbreak\unlock with redsn0w-win_0.7.1 and Pwnage, I immediately update cydia (which was crashing often when I first did the 3.0 update) using update essentials. I didn't install any apps at this point. just ran the iphone some to see if the battery would drain. So far so good. I went ahead and did my back up restore. Ran some of the apps, and verified my settings were back. Battery still at 100%. Its been running at 100% for about 3hours. I don't use it much, mostly on standby. I want to believe that the firmware i originally downloaded was the culprit. I still notice some lag time when I hit the home button to close an application. But the battery is not running down quickly anymore.

Yes its true the battery life is pathetic after the firmware upgrade. it drains my battery completely in 6 hours time without any usage and I mean without using any features of the Iphone. No bluetooth, no wi-fi still the battery is dead within 6 hours and it is brand new only 3 weeks old.

Before upgrading I had my iphone 3g jailbroken, using push set to 1hour, wifi when at home (3g on otherwise), all other services on. I got 2-3 days usage.

When I upgraded to 3.0 I noticed the battery performing about 50-75% less than before. Once I jailbroke it got worse - losing about 10% an hour! I assumed jailbreaking was the problem, so i re-did the 3.0 firmware - battery improved but still not as good as it was from 2.x (im lucky to get 2 days).

There's people here saying to turn off push / wifi / other functions of the phone to improve battery life.....but whats the point if we didn't have to before? The whole point of having the iphone is for it's functionality!

Hope 3.1 comes soon.

Updated my two-day-old 3G last week to 3.0, lost Bluetooth and WiFi (grey, Not Available) and much worse battery life. Bluetooth address all zeros. Guess I'll have to make a trip to the Apple store, from what I've read.

i heard because of the push etc thingy
but the problem is also whn you're using your iphone and the battery life not use it properly, i mean not fully install then plug it off, those also can be one reason battery not working perfectly
Some blog told that you have to do BATTERY RECYCLE and CALIBRATION method, so your battery performance can be better

BATTERY RECYCLE & CALIBRATTION METHOD
- Charge iPhone until fully charge
- Do discharge process, how to :, use your iphone until your iphone dead.
- Leave it for 1 hour
- do cycle charge process, Charge your iphone until fully charge, DO NOT USE your iphone
- After the battery is full, leave it for about 2 hours
- So its about 4 hour charging
- So after that its mean your battery already recycle and calibrated.

i have upgraded my iphone to OS 3.0 it is really nice but i have been facing 3 major problems.

1. battery life is just 5-6 hours even in standby
2. the phone response is very slow
3. (VERY IMPORTANT)there is a problem in receiving incoming calls, many a time the set is turned on with full cellular signals yet the call doesn't connect.
(i have tried my same SIM on other sets and it works fine)

IMPORTANT OBSERVATION:

all these problems occur only when the SIM is inserted in the set. with out SIM the speed is also great and battery life is also excellent i.e about 3 days of standby

i'm using an iPhone 3G and recently upgraded it to OS 3.0. I fully-charged my phone and it only lasted around 6-8 hours or so. Can anyone help me solve my problem?

Well, I've been disappointed with 3.0 too (after recent upgrade to 3.0, 1st gen. 2G iPhone) - lifetime went from ~4 days to less then 2... But, what the heck?! I did again "restore" from ipsw (this time without restoring backup, made before upgrading). Just did "clean" restore, no data from previous backup, registered as "new" device (under same name), did sync of my music and contacts from Outlook and - iPhone is running 2 days and 19 hours, 3/4 of battery discharged. Mostly use my iPhone as "phone" + player and, occasionally, WiFi access to Internet (not a "heavy" user).
To mee, it looks that problem with the battery (at least with my iPhone) came from restored backup done while on v.2.2.1.
Give a try to "fresh" restore - may be it'll help you too?

I hate the 3.0.

I had the version 2.2 and my battery life worked perfectly. I went up to three days w/o the charger.

And now with the 3.0,
well it sucks!

Mid day after it was fully charged,
it said that I have used over 15 hours on my phone already.

What the heck?
I did not have this problem when I had 2.2 version.

Nope, haven't had any problems with my iPhone 3G, in fact it's working BETTER than when I had 2.2.1. Doesn't overheat anymore, battery still lasts the same as it did before which is about 2 days at most without charging it. And I use the apps every day, email, twitter, games, facebook. No complaints here.

An iPhone lasting 3-4 days without charging? Either you're smoking people out or what you have isn't an iPhone but probably made of some thick cardboard paper which you did not realize. Lets face it, with such a smart phone and so many features, something's gotta give. Make do with it.

July 15, 2009 12:50 PM

Vanessa, don't try to judge people you've never met and don't smoke yourself...
iPhone 1st gen. 2G, not heavily used - last report 4 days 22 hours since last charge (I think it coud stay without charge about 8 hours more).
With your usage (games, twitt, 3G, etc.) most probably life time is only 2 days (if not less). Take it easy, enjoy your games and keep your cardboard for yourself - may be you would need it one day. Post was addressed to people who has a problem with battery life on v.3.0 and suggest to give a try "fresh ipsw restore" without using previous data backup.

I had a 2g Iphone, it worked fine for a year, as soon as i upgraded to 3.0 the battery went to hell. drained in 4 hours, without even using it. I replaced the battery in it, it didnt help. then i read a few posts tried a few things, and there you go it worked!

All you have to do is:
1. Go to Settings
2. Mail, Contacts, calendars
3. Fetch new Data
4. Push "OFF"
5. Under Fetch Choose "Manually" you might have to click on Advanced to choose that.

i hope this helps, it helped me on both phones!

Last week my iphone's battery (2g) died. In my country no official Apple repair service would replace the battery as I had bought the phone in another country. I took it to a non-official repair shop and had the battery replaced. It worked perfectly well. However, I decided to update the firmware from 1.1.4 to 3.0. That was a huge mistake. I didn't notice that the new battery was draining fast and that for some reason, even though the phone was plugged in, no charge was coming in. Right now I don't even have enough power to undo the firmware update and recover my phone. I've had the phone plugged via mains and via usb for long hours and not a bit of green appears on my screen, therefore Itunes won't even show that there's an Iphone connected. Any suggestions?
