There aren't too many product placements in the new Star Trek movie, fortunately, but one of them is a doozie for techies. Without spoiling the plot of the film, I can tell you that at one point James T. Kirk is driving a vehicle. He gets a call on the vehicle phone, and the ring tone is a somewhat futuristic-sounding, maybe a slightly Theremin-like version of ... the world-famous Nokia ringtone!
Then he hits a button on his vehicle's handsfree to take the call; the button is right below a giant blue "NOKIA" logo. I wish I had a screen cap, but that would be movie piracy or something.
Nokia is one of several companies who are doing marketing tie-ins with Star Trek, but the only actual product placement I saw was that Nokia vehicle phone and, at one point, Budweiser. Nobody uses Nokia 5800 phones in the film, for instance.
It's good to hear that Finnish mobile design survives the events of World War III. Would old-school ringtones (as ringtones) be considered classical music by the 23rd century?

I'm still trying to figure out how product placement works in a future with no money.
