Two teams of researchers said on Thursday they had created machines that
could "reason, formulate theories and discover scientific knowledge on
their own," a development that could potentially signal a major advance in the field of artificial intelligence, according to Reuters.
At Aberystwyth University in Wales, researchers created Adam, a robot that can carry out experiments on yeast metabolism, reason about the results, and plan the next experiment, the report said. So far it has already uncovered something new about the genetics of yeast, in what is apparently the first time a robot has ever made an independent scientific discovery.
Meanwhile, Hod Lipson and Michael Schmidt of Cornell University in New York designed a computer program that can uncover the fundamental physical laws behind a swinging double pendulum, teasing out Issac Newton's laws of motion along the way, according to the article.
Eventually both groups plan to put more robotic designs to work in discovering new medicines and uncovering new scientific principles, respectively. (Image credit: Aberystwyth University)

I hope this doesn't make our scientists lazy and dependent upon a machine but rather take this tool and make real improvements faster and more accurately to help us live better lives.

I LOVE THAT EVERY CARBON PRINT HAS TO HELP KILLS EVERYTHING IN THE LONG RUN ASK A NATIVE AMERICAN YOU CAN TRUST THE GOVERMENT + SCIENCE THEY HATE THE IDEAS OF POOR PEOPLE THE WATCH EVERY MOVE OF THE EARTH AND SKY WITH NO QUESTIONS SO PLEASE MAKE CARBON ALL THE TIME FOR THE TITTLE OF EARTH KILLER WHAT A TITTLE THATS GRATE THE RICH WIN AND LOSE THAT THE BIG WIN KNOW THE ROBO WORLD CAN BE PARTICIPATERS IN THE DEATH OF ARE SPACE TO LIVE OR THAT PLACE WILL MAKE TO BE RELLY DEAD SO THANKS FOR NOT GOING GREEN LOVE FOR THE TIME YOU'LL LET US LIVE BE FOR WE HAVE NOTHING NATIVE OF THE LAND

I know that the way to develop a machine, like my EchoLogical Machine, which will be able to actually do communicate like we do in all natural languages and as I describe in initial none confidential www information without sharing any trade secrets - the use of my proposed USCIIIIII CODE is needed!
Natural Logic deliverable in a Lexical Code must be like mathematical ways computers can follow, where any number like say 7 can be derived by 6+1 or 10-3 or 4+3 or 21/3 and so on - as most natural languages do not yet offer Natural Logic SynTexting in a symbolic way which machines as well as people can employ - so maybe limited "Thinking" can be claimed to have been achieved, but not "Automatic Comprehension" which is concise and deliverable as true as a conversation on a phone.
To see how the real capability of having a machine laugh at a joke or sing along with you, talk with you, teach you, listen to you, implement highest quality real time translations at the a"Inter-cultural level" among all existing languages, serve you and so on and on - all the capabilities the industry has yet failed to deliver after more then half a century of impressive development of computing and automation.
Please search for "The Universally Intelligent Internet Project" to see why I know the only way to actually deliver the Thinking and Understanding machines which do not need keyboards and pointing plus selecting devices...

Well, we all knew this day was coming. I personally think it's great and I can't wait to see what all comes of it. But, I don't think they're going to be "teasing out" anything (paragraph 3). Just a thought....

Wow, now can we develop a machine that can figure out stuff like what my wife means when she wants to "talk"?

The developement of any robot with the ability to have "robotic intelligence" independent of human input, should be closely monitored, to avoid any possibility of man being enslaved by his own technicalogical accomplishements, for the unthinkable is only one step behind reality at all times.

YES, we employ Natural Logic and Language to comunicate by vocals microphones can capture like in an 'honest machine' like The Telephone where we can recognise the indevidual voiceprint of a person as well as meeting of our minds can be achieved in real time in wireless way - so my invention helps computers join us and not only in songs and jokes but also in thoughts - and on the far side of my invention, science will be able to actually comunicate with animals in theirs language, as we know they can not more then hear and obay the words we can share with them - as meanings - and none actally does talk back...yet...lol
