All things considered, Apple reported some pretty positive second quarter earnings with a profit of $8.16 billion. Still, the company--like pretty much everyone else these days--is suffering the effects of a sour economy. The retail side of things has not been performing so well for the company, with revenue declining $5.9 million from $7.1 million over the same period last year.
As a result, the company slashed some 1,600 full-time jobs in its storefronts--14,000 jobs down from 15,600. The company has also slowed the rate of store openings, to brace for the effects of the downturn, having only opened a single on this year so far.
