Cricket Wireless and Motorola today announced the low-cost carrier's highest-end phone so far, the Motorola Evoke QA4. The QA4 will be Cricket's first touch-screen phone.

The Evoke is a somewhat oval-shaped slider phone (4.25" x 2" x .7", 4.5 oz) with a 2.8", 240x400 LCD touch screen. The screen slides up to show a ridged phone number pad.

Motorola has loaded quite a bit of software on here for a non-smart-phone - as always, it will be interesting to see what the carriers leave intact. The Evoke has a full HTML browser, a special MySpace app, threaded SMS and email applications, video streaming from sites like YouTube, and GPS. Motorola promises "quick-start widgets" on the home screen to let you jump to social networking and photo-sharing sites.

The Evoke has an accelerometer, and if you turn it on its side, it pops up a virtual QWERTY keypad for texting and e-mailing.

The phone supports stereo Bluetooth audio and has 256 MB of memory, plus room for a MicroSD card up to 16 GB. On the back, there's a 2-megapixel camera with video recording capabilities.

The Evoke runs on CDMA EVDO Rev A 3G networks in the 850/1900 and AWS bands, which means it'll work with not only Cricket, but Verizon, Sprint and MetroPCS if they choose to pick it up.

Cricket will begin selling the Evoke in May. They did not announce a price.

I think that all these people leaving comments need to learn how to spell and use proper grammer. Half of the comments left here, I can't even make out what it's trying to say. Dumb people, gosh! The phone is cool though.

This phone is great for crickets first touch phone but being a user - it is not all that you would imagine for the touch phone market. Half the ring tones it should recognize it doesn't, same goes with photos. I have had many cricket phones with the micro SD card that have never had problems with uploading my music files or jpegs images. Also - you cant assign a custom ring tone to callers only calls & texts in general. You cannot upload new "widgets" nor quick ap keys to applications. The camera is good if its 100% day light, there is NO flash. It is fun to play with and the screens graphics are great but being a business professional and a marketing socialist its like the old age phones with NO options and a touch screen. Wait for the price to go down before purchasing.
