Seagate unveiled three new products on Wednesday at CES: the FreeAgent Theater HD media player, a complete home theater system; the Showcase DVR Expander, 500GB of capacity for your DVR; and the Pipeline HD Series, two new hard drives for DVRs.

The Seagate FreeAgent Theater HD media player (above) is a new accessory made to work with the award-winning FreeAgent Go portable hard drive. It lets people easily store digital media, including videos, photos, and music, and play it directly on their TVs, rather than computer monitors.

One feature that makes the Seagate FreeAgent Theater so easy to use is the number of supported audio and video formats. It media player supports MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 formats, and DIVX files with video resolutions for NTSC, PAL and HD up to 1080i--and even provides support for subtitles.

Available in March, the Seagate FreeAgent Theater HD media player can be purchased as a standalone unit for use with any USB storage device, or a complete solution with a FreeAgent Go portable drive included, starting at $129.99.

More new Seagate products after the jump.

The Seagate Showcase DVR storage expander is compatible with many DISH Network receivers, and offers more DVR recording capacity. This latest certification of the 500GB USB-connected DVR expander for one of the largest digital broadcast providers in the U.S. means that many of DISH Network's nearly 14 million subscribers can benefit from greater capacity to record more TV shows. The 500GB DVR expander provides up to 100 hours of additional HD or 500 hours of standard definition content.

The Seagate Showcase DVR operates nearly silently, and has "earth-conscious sustainable power management," as well as the ability to operate in high-temperature environments.

Seagate has also announced two new additions to the Seagate Pipeline HD family of purpose-built hard drives for digital video recorders: the Pipeline HD Mini (above) and Pipeline HD.2. The Pipeline HD Mini hard drive is the world's first 2.5-inch drive specifically made to use with DVRs. It comes in 160GB and 250GB capacities. The Pipeline HD.2 is the second generation of the Pipeline HD drive built in a 3.5-inch form factor and comes in in 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB capacities. Seagate's Pipeline HD Mini and Pipeline HD.2 drives will be available in the first half of 2009.

I am the owner of a small business outside of boston and if anyone is thinking of online backup I would suggest an online backup system. I use an online backup from Staples Network Services. It is very easy to use and automated so i never have to hit a button. I also got 60 days free when I signed up.
