Is it just me, or is this space stuff like, total rocket science? Telescope manufacturer Meade is looking to take "all of the hassle and [put] in all the fun" of looking at cool stuff in the sky, with its new ETX-LS. This massive telescope has a slew of features that bring clear images to users who couldn't locate a celestial body to save their lives.
The ETX-LS features Lightswitch Technology which lets users align the scope with the flip of a witch, using the Integrated Sensor Module and ECLIPS (Electronically Controlled Locate Identify Position System).
The telescope also features Advanced Coma-Free optics, an ECLIPS CCD for image capture, and the Autostar III hand-held controller, which features a database including more than 100,000 images.

Well,I've got 3 Meade telescopes(ETX 90- 125-LX 90)and I'm very satisfied with them.2 telescopes were bought at OPT,USA and 1 in Germany. I think the new ETX-LS will work ok after some improvements which is normal with new models.I don't think I'll buy one due to the small aperture , but on the other hand it's highly portable.I think it will be a success in 2009,the year of astronomy.
Good luck

Kudos for Meade for the intro. of the ETX-LS, I believe that it being a 6" model makes it more portable for those of us who are snowbirds and need a 'scope that is very portable for traveling yet can still view deep space objects as well as most of our planets.

The ETX-LS will be a complete and total success, or utter failure for meade as their future is riding on this scope for it's survival. The company's stock is at .19 a share with 29,000,000 shares outstanding. Due the math, that's probably a lot less than their assets. Why do you think they're not shipping yet since Jan. of 2009. I'm sure they will ship a large batch, wait a short while to wait for feedback and see if they succeeded. After that they will go in to full blown production. Also they will be shipped oldest order first, and many will be drop-shipped direct depending on the merchant, Now that being said I have on one order and hope I know that my reasoning makes sense. The price will go up, and a 8" and 10" tube put on that mount I did the to scale measurements and there is room on the sturdy mount. This will mean realigning lots of pricing I also think that many will get the ACF @$1299.00 as meade will just stop the sct offering for those who have already ordered, Fred
