LG_Voyager_Mobile_TV.jpg

This question came from reader Andrew:

On your Web site, it mentions that the LG Voyager can be used as a modem, and the best way to do that is with USB. How do you access the Internet [using the Voyager] on a PC? Naturally, I was told that you supposedly are unable to do that. Any help?

My reply after the jump.

Hi Andrew,

You can definitely use the Voyager as a modem for your laptop—the process is called "modem tethering." To do it, you need a special data plan from Verizon that costs extra, called BroadbandAccess Connect. Depending on your current voice and data plan, it could be anywhere from $15 per month on up.

Once you activate that, then you need to download Verizon's VZ Access Manager software, from www.vzam.net, and install it on your PC. That site also contains a list of supported devices at the following link:

http://www.vzam.net/download/supported.aspx

Note that your LG Voyager is listed (as the LG VX10000). There's also a way to set up modem tethering manually using dial-up networking in Windows. For more information, here's an article I wrote a few months ago for Smart Device Central, PC Mag's dedicated smartphone and PDA site, on how to set up modem tethering for Verizon smartphones:

How To: Tether Your Verizon Smartphone as a Modem (2008 Edition)

Hope this helps.
