I was sitting at my desk refreshing circuitcity.com's temporary placeholder page, hovering like a vulture to see if there would be any crazy online deals, when instead, up popped a helpful FAQ page with details on the grim liquidation proceedings.
For example, yes, those gift cards you got for Christmas will be honored (a truly noble move for a Chapter-11 company). Yes, your extended warranties are still good. The company will offer HDTV home installations, but not car audio installations, during the liquidation sale.
These and many more helpful answers are to be found at circuitcity.com/closed.

Hmm - I stopped by my local liquidation, and they're only doing 10% off of everything. Not much in the way of a huge "liquidation," is it?
That being said, here's hoping the employees losing their jobs and getting the shaft are hiding the good stuff around the place until the sales are good enough that they can pick it all up. :)

I purchased a floor model tv a year ago. At that time I also purchased a 7 year warranty through Circuit City. I paid about $400.00 for the warranty. Do I get my money back?

Joy, you don't get your money back but it says on the website that warranties will be honored.
Good luck to all of the emloyees, I hope all of you guys and gals get jobs soon.
Personally I will miss Circuit City. With the exception of my Subwoofer I actually bought ALL of my electronics there. Price matching and customer service were better there than ANY of my options locally.

You can't expect fire sale prices the first day. Just because they are going out of business, they have creditors to pay. They are obligated to try and get as much cash for their inventory as they can to settle as much debt as possible. As soon as they filed BK, the creditors own the store and the inventory. I saw it coming as they had some of the highest prices around, and only CompUSA (also gone) was higher.
Best Buy will probably be next. Too many people have found out that they can go online or even to WalMart and get cheaper prices.
Right now with the economy in the tank, people just can't afford to spend as much money, and the mid range retailers will always get hit first.

When CC was in business they did not have enough employees to help you. Now they have too many employees and you still can`t get help. Years ago I bought everything from them till , I knew more about the produuct then the saleperson. I `m a grandmother and would expect help with electronic`s. I started going to Best Buy and jhave nothing bad to say about them. (yet)

CC's prices have never been cheap and service was dismal. That is the reason they are going out of business. CompUSA had several stores taken over by Tiger Direct here in Florida. They are now a great computer store. I drive several miles to shop there.

Actually, you got the installation information in reverse. Per www.circuitcity.com/closed.html:
Will Circuit City offer home theater installations during the closing sale?
No, we will not be offering home installation services.
and
Will car electronics installations be available at liquidation stores during the closing sale?
Yes, Circuit City stores will continue to offer car electronics installation during the closing sale.

As of Thursday - 22 Jan - the web site says neither home theater or car electronics will be available during the liquidation!
