Volkswagen debuted the second-generation Golf Plus at the Bologna Motor Show in Italy. Essentially, it's a raised version of the upcoming sixth-generation Golf, offering good fuel economy and a European car-like driving feel to anyone who needs more passenger room than the standard compact or subcompact offers.

The company has yet to confirm the full engine range, but is promising a combination of gasoline and clean diesel engines for the car's European launch next Spring. Volkswagen is also focusing on reduced emissions and improved fuel economy for the powertrains, which will be paired with both five- and six-speed manual and direct-shift gearbox transmissions. The company will also announce complete specifications and pricing sometime before then.
