Sure John McCain may have invented the BlackBerry, but he's been fairly busy these past few months, so no one can really blame the guy if he forgot to wipe the thing clean once he was done with it.
Last week the McCain-Palin campaign had a post-election garage sale, offering deep discounts on office supplies. It was an offer too good to pass up for a reporter at a Washington-area Fox affiliate. Tisha Thompson arrived at the sale after "most of the good stuff had been taken." The cabinets and bookcases were already gone, but Thompson did manage to snag a pretty good deal on a BlackBerry. The reporter bought a few of the remaining smartphones.
What she found was more than just a cheap handset. Once charged, one of the BlackBerries turned out to be loaded with secret information--phone numbers and e-mails belonging to the staffer who had used it. Fox contacted the campaign and got the following answer: "It was an unfortunate staff error and procedures are being put in place to ensure all information is secure." Whoops.
