Honda is one of the more recent entrants with a Facebook group dedicated to its upcoming Insight hybrid. Why not just go straight to Honda's Insight web page, you ask? For one, the Facebook group actually has many more photos, taken at the car's recent LA Auto Show concept debut. You will also miss a chance to connect with other Insight fans -- some 1,400 so far -- by posting messages on the "wall" and maybe even getting to know them personally.

Nissan is another hip automaker, strutting its stuff across Facebook's social network with its soon-to-come boxy Cube. The now popular Mini Cooper too has a group which boasts a whopping 9,000 fans.

Of course this vast marketing potential is not a one-fits-all. Facebook's love is reserved strictly for autos with the kind of funk factor that resonates with its youth-dominated scene. That's why even some the more exciting domestic models like the upcoming Ford Fusion Hybrid and the fuel-sipping Pontiac G3 (which I happen to like) do not appear to have company-sponsored Facebook groups.
