Jollbot is a robot created by Rhodri Armour as a thesis for his doctorate degree in the University of Bath. It has a spherical cage-like appearance and can both roll and jump, making it an ideal device for traversing rough terrains. Since this is a problem face by many space robots, Jollbot has the potential to be used for space exploration in the future.

Jollbot adapts the mechanism of a grasshopper, using a motor to store energy by squashing its spherical cage, and releasing the stored energy to jump half a meter into the air. The bot is a mere one kilogram in weight, so it won't cause any damage to itself upon hopping. Current prototype is made by printing plastic layers atop each other to form the object using a technology called RepRap machine also pioneered by the same university. Armous envisages future iteration meant for space exploration to "include a stretchy skin covered in solar cells on the outside of the robot" to harness solar energy and control sensors for environment sensing.
