Rock star Neil Young has created a company called Linc Volt Technology, which aims to promote the conversion of existing gas-guzzling cars into alternative fuel vehicles, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Apparently, he's starting big, not small: with a 1959 Lincoln Continental.
The report said that Young's dream is to inspire people to re-power or retrofit their existing cars, which both reduces manufacturing and increases fuel efficiency. "All we're doing is showing that you can run a car like this at 100 miles per gallon or more," said Young in the article. "Our main focus is on developing the technology. We can tell people how to do it. Or, we can do it for you."
To do the conversion, Young turned to H-Line, a company that developed a new type of alternative-energy engine that's compatible with multiple alternative fuel technologies. In this case, the Continental can be plugged in, charged and then run strictly on electricity using a rotary engine and its batteries, the report said. Meanwhile, a CNG generator in the car kicks in to recharge the batteries on longer trips. The best part? The car's generator will "actually feed electricity back into your home when it's parked and plugged in in the garage."
