Lexus has unveiled their third-generation RX series crossovers for the 2010 model year. The new RX450h hybrid will feature an updated Lexus Hybrid Drive system that runs on the Atkinson cycle and outputs a total of 295 hp, which is 27 more than the current hybrid model, while the gas-powered RX350 also gets a power increase to 275 hp.
The RX450h also receives two new systems: an exhaust-heat recovery system that reduces engine warm-up time allowing it to stop earlier, more often, and for longer periods, and a cooled exhaust-gas recirculation system that reduces engine pumping losses. Both systems reduce emissions and improve fuel economy, according to the automaker.
The new RX interior features a new dual-zone-cockpit design, an optional eight-inch navigation and telematics system with a haptic-feedback-enabled controller, an optional head-up display, and a huge variety of active and passive safety systems that add up to alphabet soup more than anything else (but are all good things, obviously). The all-new 2010 RX 350 will go on sale next February, while the 2010 RX 450h will be available in the spring.
