Kia plans to debut its next generation fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV) system at the L.A. auto show next week, according to AutoWeek. The automaker plans to showcase the new system in its 4960-pound Borrego, instead of the previous Sportage-themed FCEV.

The new version of the FCEV features a 47 hp bump to 154 hp, along with a new 450-volt super capacitor, which packs on another 134 hp. "Thanks to the super capacitor, driving range increases and enables the car to start in subzero temperatures for year-round usability."

Some more stats: 100 mph top speed, and a Kia-claimed best-in-class system efficiency of 62 percent, which is roughly equivalent to an EPA rating of 54 mpg. The Borrego could be fitted with up to three tanks for a range of 426 miles, according to the report.
