How appropriate: a BlackBerry Storm giveaway, in a storm!

If you live or work in NYC, you've got till 7 PM today to get over to Times Square (on 46th and Broadway) for a chance to win a BlackBerry Storm. But be prepared to get soaked and to wait for upwards of an hour. Here's how it works:

  • Contestants are locked in a wind tunnel booth with flying tickets redeemable for prizes .
  • Contestants have 30 seconds to grab as many tickets as possible.
  • Make it out with 7 black tickets = you get a BlackBerry Storm in the mail.
  • Make it out with 6 red tickets = you win a Jabra Bluetooth headset.
  • Make it out with none of the above, and you bring decades of shame to your family name.

If you just want some hands-on time with the smartphone, you can head over there too. After the jump, check out a video of the action and pictures of contestants in action!

Very cool! Can't wait until it is out so I can get one! The Blackberry Storm will definitely be a major competitor to the iphone but where's the wifi?

Verizon is known for locking the GPS feature to their crappy applications. I provide software consulting to local, state and federal agencies and the first thing I tell them is to stay away from Verizon Wireless. It seems like a nice attempt by RIM to keep its base that are currently curious and interested in the apple-like touch-screen features. Bottom line: No WiFi, locked GPS = why even bother!? Go for the "Blackberry Bold" from AT&T.

Nice try AT&T guy but you must not be in the loop on the Storm. Open GPS, quad band so it can go where no AT&T phone can go-- Japan. And who needs WiFi? Only AT&T has convinced you that it is necessary. Why? Because they don't have the high speed network in enough places for it to matter. Oh and guess what, they probably aren't going to invest in expanding that network but use WiFi to augment what they have until they move to 4G. They pump out the messages and you keep parroting them. Good job!
