Fisker Automotive just announced an agreement with Valmet Automotive to build the Fisker Karma, the four-door plug-in hybrid sports sedan, in Finland, with Valmet Automotive acting as the engineering and manufacturing supplier. Just the other day, Fisker announced that it was setting up its design headquarters in Michigan.
Valmet plans to build a new body welding line, and said that it can easily adapt its existing painting and assembly processes to handle both electric and hybrid cars. The companies said in a joint statement that production is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2009, with North American and European customer deliveries beginning in 2010. The two companies will eventually ratchet up production to 15,000 cars annually.
