Can your cell phone help reduce traffic congestion? A live demonstration of the Mobile Millennium traffic monitoring system, involving a fleet of 25 cars traveling along a 10-mile loop in Manhattan's city streets, will take place tomorrow, November 18th, during the World Congress on Intelligent Transportation Systems in New York City.
During the demonstration, drivers will carry Nokia N95 phones that send and receive real-time traffic data around the city. The visualized data may be viewed at the NAVTEQ and U.S. Department of Transportation exhibit hall booths inside the Javits Center. Last week, our partner site PC Magazine reported that a similar demonstration took place last week in the San Francisco Bay Area. For more information on the program, check out the official Mobile Millenium Web site.
