Remember the Volkswagen Golf Twin Drive, the company's diesel hybrid test bed? They built 20 of 'em for testing around Berlin. VW has already said they won't put this car into production because it will be too expensive, saying instead that they'll ready a gasoline-based version for a 2011 model year release. In the meantime,
AutoblogGreen reports that VW is rating the car at 94 mpg.
The rest of the numbers are slightly different than originally reported: the car can go about 30 miles on electricity alone, and can reach 31 mph before the diesel engine kicks in. The report said that the diesel-hybrid hardware (not counting the engine block) adds another 550 pounds to the car. A British car mag tested the car and reported that the even distribution of the new weight keeps things balanced out, but that the car does feel heavier than a standard Golf in regular driving.
