PC Mag's lead mobile analyst Sascha Segan has spent a good portion of the past week getting to know T-Mobile's new G1 Google Android phone. Segan sat down with editor-in-chief Lance Ulanoff to talk about the pluses and minuses and phone and lay out some advice for future Google Android handset manufacturers.
Will wait until v2 comes out. And maybe for less than $179.
We need headset jack and a media player, what was Google thinking not putting those in? As big as the G1 is I'm sure there was space.
The goal is to carry less devices that do more not more devices that do less.

The G1 is a good phone. All you have to do is use it a lot if you have friends with phones.
I keep to myself and toy around and solve all the problems.
Too many extra icons on the desktop? ...Well use you finger and pull it to the bottom of the screen and you will see the unwanted icon fall into a trashcan.

With open source operating system, I'd imagine that shortcomings like media player and controls will be forthcoming.
It has bluetooth, so a hard wired earphone jack is not critical.
I use a Windows Mobile phone now and fear my outlook calender and contacts won't carry over. Google Apps has substitutes but my contacts wouldn't convert.

1 synch the pocket pc with outlook
2. Export the outlook contact folder as a file, choose CSV file DOS not windows format.
3 create a username on googlemail and select contacts
4. Important. Top right click on OLD SYSTEM - the new contacts format will not import.
5 click import export then scroll down to the import section and select the csv file you saved earlier and it works! 640 contacts added which then appeared on my G1.
