Crammer-product_shot.jpg

I'm the type of person who needs to see things repeatedly to really get them in my head. Thus, as a young student, and all the way through college, I made flashcards--and lots of them. Writing definitions of Spanish words and dates of U.S. history took just as long as studying the flashcards themselves. But thanks to technology, kids can make studying a lot more fun and easy. LeapFrog has just released its Crammer Study & Sound System, which allows users to create their own flashcards, download quizzes and flashcards, and play music on a handheld portable device.

LeapFrog is a leading developer of technology-based learning products, which includes the company's proprietary online resource, the LeapFrog Learning Path: It allows parents to have insight into their child's learning process in relation to other LeapFrog products. When a kid is using the Crammer, parents can go to Learning Path to see details about how their child is doing with his or her Crammer quizzes.

Whether they're on the bus to school or on a family road trip, kids (grades 3 to 8) can use the Crammer to quiz themselves. Both parents and kids can go to the Learning Path Web site and choose from 16,000 prepared quiz questions to download, as well as flashcards for different areas of study such as math, science, social studies, and language arts.

Another benefit is that your child's back may get some relief without those stacks of flashcards taking up room in his or her backpack: The Crammer weighs a mere 4.6 ounces.

One of the coolest features the Crammer offers is its English-to-Spanish translator. The device can translate words from English to Spanish and vice versa and make them into flashcards. Not only can you see the cards, but you can also hear the pronunciation of the word.

The Crammer also lets you store 10 hours of music, with 1GB of memory. Parents can upload their choices of music, like Mozart, for their children to study to, or they can allow their kids to pick the music themselves. I foresee many Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus study sessions...

The Crammer runs at $59.99 and is now available online and at major retailers in the U.S. All quizzes and study content are available to download online free of charge.
