Tesla Motors co-founder Martin Eberhard is using his blog to spread the word about "one little thing wrong" with the Tesla Roadster, Engadget reports, after finding that the car's ESS coolant pump seemed to run constantly, even well after the car had been parked and shut down. A little investigation turned up the answer.
Eberhard found that the coolant pump, along with its various support electronics, drew 14 kilowatt-hours in four days while sitting in the garage, which is about what two large refrigerators would draw from the wall in the same time period, the report said. Eberhard said that could also have some "pretty severe implications for the life of the pump and battery," along with the car's stated range.
A Tesla spokesperson responded by saying the pump will indeed shut off once the battery is half-way discharged, "which is a state that some with a short commute, like Eberhard, may rarely see." I have a feeling we'll hear more about this, because that doesn't strike me as a "case closed" type answer.
