Hank Paulson and Ben Bernanke are supporting a gigantic stimulus package that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other congressional Democrats are trying to push through Congress, Wired reports, in a decidedly low-tech but important effort to significantly boost spending on roads, bridges and other public works projects as well as alternative energy tax credits.

The stimulus plan, which would be the second this year, would cost between $150 billion and $300 billion, the report said. "In addition to allocating funds for traditional infrastructure spending, lawmakers are also considering provisions that would give families and businesses tax credits for investing in green projects like wind and solar." Whatever actually passes may end up looking very different than this, as is always the case, but any new projects—3,000 highway projects alone—could begin within 30 to 90 days of the bill's passage.
