All types of displays are continuously getting thinner these days, but this one's so thin it actually flaps. Aptly called the "flapping OLED" display by Samsung, this slim piece of work was exhibited at the Flat Panel Display International 2008 in Japan. It has an impressive 0.05mm in thickness and is four inches in width. With the current technology available to us today, 0.05mm is the thinnest Samsung can go, which isn't bad at all.
The OLED display was made by using polysilicon TFTs and low-molecular organic EL materials. The panel is then sealed using a technology that employs sputtering method and doesn't use glass substrate. Samsung's flapping OLED display has a 480 × 272 pixels resolution, 200cd/m2 luminance and 100,000:1 contrast ratio. Just imagine watching movies on paper-thin displays in the future!
