Holding off for that upcoming Apple announcement before you buy a new Mac? There may be some good news in store for you, especially in light of the window-jumping economic crisis. According to a leaked price list, Apple is looking to enter the low-cost PC market with an $800 notebook.

The Inquisitr claims , "The information comes from a source we would categorize as reliable, would have access to such information, and who has been accurate in the past."

The notebook would mark Apple's first costing under four digits; the current low-end Macbook is $1,099.

Apple, of course, is infamous for being tight-lipped about upcoming product announcements, but as we've seen with the last few iPod models, increased visibility tends to lead to more slip-ups.

I think "who gives a rat's behind what Apple comes out with or its price point." It will be some proprietary, non-user customizable bit o garbage for the non-tech "it just works" masses no matter the price.

Why is Road Dog such a crybaby?
Can't afford a Mac?
That's too bad!

Wow, they must be crazy if they think an $800 laptop is competition to a machine like the Eee PC, which sells for less than half that.

Only a fanboy or the desperately misinformed would pay twice the price to get OSX (which is essentially what they are offering)

It's always neat to see Apple come out with new updates; however, owning what currently is the latest MacBook kind of depresses me. $1500 a few months ago for something which may now be outdated. *Sighs*, I guess that's technology for ya. I just wish the MacBooks had more upgradable features.

Comaring the EEE PC to any laptop in Apple's lineup is silly - the EEE PC is made for a certain type of consumer, and certain type of market, and that market would not be interested in a full-size, and fully featured laptop.

I do have a question for the folks who want upgradable features though: what about the Macbook and Macbook pro do you want to upgrade that you can't? The RAM and hard drive, are so easily accessible there are one-minute YouTube videos on how to upgrade each. What is it about a Mac that you can't upgrade in another laptop?
