"Problems with the BlackBerry Bold, you say? Faulty software has caused Orange to recall the PDA in Britain, you've heard? No sir, we sure haven't seen anything like that ."
Not my words. And not the direct statements of either AT&T or Rogers, either. But close.
We asked Rogers -- which has already released the Bold in Canada -- to comment on whether they had seen the alleged software issues that caused Orange to withdraw the PDA. We asked the same question of AT&T, which has so far issued little more than a vague commitment to bring the Bold out in the United States. We do have a preview, though.
Here's what they told us:
Rogers: "Rogers' Bold 3G is in market and available. While we don't comment on other carriers, we well-tested the device and software before we launched and we haven't seen any significant issues. We do have a software update from the manufacturer coming shortly - which is all part of normal routine."
AT&T: "We have said that we will launch the Bold this year."
And that, as Sascha Segan noted, is that. Why does Rogers not see "any significant issues" while Orange obviously has? And what did AT&T find, if anything? We have yet to receive an official explanation.

Each network is about as unique as a fingerprint. Some are homogeneous and straightforward to support. Some are heterogeneous and more challenging to support. That's why device manufacturers have to customize their code for each network and carriers have to test and certify the code. It's just the way it is. That's why it has taken longer with AT&T. They have a more complex 3G network.

Don't buy this Blackberry shit anymore. I bought a Blackberry Bold in August and stopped receiving email for 2 days before I realised that my emails were piling up but my Blackberry Bold failed to forward them as promised. I called Rogers tech support and they wanted me to take the battery out and sim cards out to identify the problem. I ask, is this how a thousand dollar phone is supposed to work? I went to the Rogers store on Adelaide in downtown Toronto and the got the phone to receive email and will not refund or change the phone. They put me on the phone with their tech support for over one hour, to wait for them to tell me that I need to sit at a computer to reload the software on the phone. Is this why we buy Blackberry phones? To piss around with fixing their phones?
STOP BUYING THIS BLACKBERRRY SHIT! STOP KIDDING YOURSELF. IT'S JUNK! IT'S TRUE THERE ARE SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH BLACKBERRY PHONES. ANYBODY REMEMBER? THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME! IT IS THE NORM WITH BLACKBERRY! I ONLY JUST FIGURED THAT OUT MYSELF!

I've been using the 8700r for two years now without a single problem. This is full sync with enterprize.

I have been using two blackberry bolds for the last three days both of them have crashed in the short time I have had them. When replying to a sms message, the option to delete history or orginal text message before sending does not work. This is frustrating for a new phone to not work properly.

I am about to take mine back after owning it 3 days: the interenet is slower than my palm TREO 750 (which I thought was the worst phone I ever had), last night it stopped sending text messages and put everything in a pending folder, I also haven't been getting emails, it doesn't recognize my bluetooth ear piece, the GPS wouldn't work last night when I was lost and had full coverage and the video feature already crashed on me.

Hi
I just got my blackberry bold and noticed some kind of a malfunction. At times i noticed that even when the phone is not in use, the screen is off "sleep" but the phone is on, i felt the screen a bit warm and at the back casing covering the battery and suddenly noticed the battery half drained while it was full an hour ago. it's like the phone and screen is in use but not. i checked whether the music is playing that i am unaware of, but not. Can you please help me. I then turn the phone completely off and on again and normal function follows. this might be one problem unseen by many. I'm pretty sure this is not a singular case only. Maybe you guys "experts" might have an insight. Thanks a lot
Kester

I just bought a used Blackberry Bold from someone yesterday. AT&T service, and no data package plan (no internet). The problem is that this phone will constantly change networks from 3G to EDGE to gprs, sometimes it takes 2-3 seconds to do so if it will say "Searching for network..." before switching. Sometimes when I call or someone calls me, it wont go through because the phone will be switching networks. But if I am actually having a conversation on the phone, then my call won't get dropped and the network stays the same. Yesterday I was having a problem with the texting: after a while the messages just wouldn't get sent anymore and said "pending", but after taking the battery out and back in it got fixed. Also, this morning when I woke up the phone had no service, so I had to turn it off and back on and then it was fine.

I am giving up on these so called business phones with the BLackberry names. Have been through two of them in the past two years including my current "BOLD". They truly are garbage when not working properly, and that's about 30% of the time. No end of problems, from battery overheating, to resets whilst in a conversation. And our friendly AT&T wants me to replace it with another Bold for a mere $600.00. Yeah right!!!!!!Anyone know of va good reliable cell phone? PLEASE.....

Why are you so surprised? You buy EXACTLY the same quality of software as a PC operating system, and you don't complain?!
Buy a Mac, buy an iPhone...

I purchased a phone that does not work properly from AT & T. They clearly know that the Blackberry Phone locks up. My phone will reboot itself while I am in the middle of calls if I receive another call, text or email. I then have to wait for the Phone to power back up. I then call the person I was speaking with and apologize and try to make sure they do not feel I hung up on them. I have had 2 phones with this same problem.
I have been told for 8 months that this is a programming issue and they are working on it. AT & T wants me to keep taking the same phone on exchange until my 1 year warranty runs out.
They were so bold today and offered that I can purchase another phone. Why would one purchase another phone from a company that does not stand behind the one you currently have???
Additionally I was told when I had the first problem that after 3 times of receiving a new phone that I would receive my monies back to purchase a new phone. I am now told that this is not true. Why both Tyson’s Corner and Montgomery Mall AT would & T stores tell me this and it is not true.
AT & T believes that giving another defective phone and to continue doing this over a 12 month period will run the warranty out and cause the consumer to purchase a new phone.
The remedy from AT & T is to give me another possible defective Blackberry or for me to purchase a new phone at the discounted price of $400.00 which they offer new accounts.
AT & T clearly is selling known defective products. I thought this kind of practice would be illegal.

Okay, I May only be 13 but I would like to have a phone that actually works.
About a month ago my father got me an at&t go phone plan and gave me his old blackberry with a new SIM card.
At first the phone worked okay.I would have service and be able to text. But recently my blackberry stopped allowing me to do so.
When it first stopped working It would go from having full bars to no service in about 2 seconds even though i hadnt moved. It would just keep switching back and forth to full bars to no service or SOS.
The next day,I had service but it would not let me make a call or send and recieve SMS text messages.
I tried the usual, restarting the phone, taking the battery and SIM card out, putting the battery and SIM card back in,but still the phone would not work.
I am sick and tired of my blackberry and would like to get a new phone, unfotunatly I have no money to do so.
I do not reccomend the blackberry to anyone,as it is not a good phone and seems to never work.

So.... Are there problems with BB BOLD?
October 21, 2009 1:55 PM
I've got all of you beat, at&t has replaced my bb bold 7 times. They refuse to refund the purchase price instead choosing to send me another phone. The longest service I have received from any of the phones was 3 months. The shortest, 23 hours. If my experience helps anyone that's great. My advice avoid this phone like the plague.
