"Problems with the BlackBerry Bold, you say? Faulty software has caused Orange to recall the PDA in Britain, you've heard? No sir, we sure haven't seen anything like that ."

Not my words. And not the direct statements of either AT&T or Rogers, either. But close.

We asked Rogers -- which has already released the Bold in Canada -- to comment on whether they had seen the alleged software issues that caused Orange to withdraw the PDA. We asked the same question of AT&T, which has so far issued little more than a vague commitment to bring the Bold out in the United States. We do have a preview, though.

Here's what they told us:

Rogers: "Rogers' Bold 3G is in market and available. While we don't comment on other carriers, we well-tested the device and software before we launched and we haven't seen any significant issues. We do have a software update from the manufacturer coming shortly - which is all part of normal routine."

AT&T: "We have said that we will launch the Bold this year."

And that, as Sascha Segan noted, is that. Why does Rogers not see "any significant issues" while Orange obviously has? And what did AT&T find, if anything? We have yet to receive an official explanation.

Each network is about as unique as a fingerprint. Some are homogeneous and straightforward to support. Some are heterogeneous and more challenging to support. That's why device manufacturers have to customize their code for each network and carriers have to test and certify the code. It's just the way it is. That's why it has taken longer with AT&T. They have a more complex 3G network.

Don't buy this Blackberry shit anymore. I bought a Blackberry Bold in August and stopped receiving email for 2 days before I realised that my emails were piling up but my Blackberry Bold failed to forward them as promised. I called Rogers tech support and they wanted me to take the battery out and sim cards out to identify the problem. I ask, is this how a thousand dollar phone is supposed to work? I went to the Rogers store on Adelaide in downtown Toronto and the got the phone to receive email and will not refund or change the phone. They put me on the phone with their tech support for over one hour, to wait for them to tell me that I need to sit at a computer to reload the software on the phone. Is this why we buy Blackberry phones? To piss around with fixing their phones?
STOP BUYING THIS BLACKBERRRY SHIT! STOP KIDDING YOURSELF. IT'S JUNK! IT'S TRUE THERE ARE SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH BLACKBERRY PHONES. ANYBODY REMEMBER? THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME! IT IS THE NORM WITH BLACKBERRY! I ONLY JUST FIGURED THAT OUT MYSELF!
