It wouldn't be a proper day without at least some Chevy Volt news, and according to AutoWeek, GM has come through with an official report that the company plans to sell the Volt as an Opel just months after it goes on sale here in the U.S., said Hans Demant, managing director of Opel.
"Since fuel economy and the whole issue of ecological driving is as important in Europe as it is in North America, we made a decision that we're going to trail the North American Volt with an Opel version of that vehicle in the 2011 time frame," Demant said in the article.
Demant said that while the two cars will share the same platform and drivetrain, they will be styled differently, and that the Opel version is "not a badge vehicle, definitely not." Opel is also experimenting with a new ecoFLEX version of the Insignia that includes several lower-tech changes in an attempt to improve mileage by about two mpg compared to the regular car.
