Psystar, whose Open Computers mimic the Apple Macintosh, said the company has begun shipping Blu-ray drives inside its PCs, as well as the GeForce 9800GT card from Nvidia.

EDIT 3:24 PM PDT: AppleInsider is also reporting that Psystar is also working on a what apparently is a MacBook clone. "I can tell you that it is something that is in development," a company representative told an AppleInsider reader via an email.

Psystar's PCs are essentially Mac clones, although both Apple and Psystar have agreed to mediation to hammer out whether Psystar actually infringes on Apple's patents. Apple had originally asked for a recall of the Open Computer, but no temporary restraining order was ever filed.

""Blu-ray has already won the format war," said Rudy Pedraza, Psystar's president, said in a statement. "Not only is there fully functional and mature support for Blu-ray in other operating systems but you can now rent Blu-ray discs from almost any rental chain. Blu-ray has become pervasive technology that is being widely adopted by consumers everywhere."

Part of the reason that Psystar included the Blu-ray functionality was to thumb its nose at Apple, which pointedly sidestepped using the new technology in its latest Macbooks. Blu-ray is a "bag of hurt," Apple chief executive Steve Jobs said at the launch. "It's great to watch a Blu-ray movie, but the licensing of the technology is so complex and expensive."

Adding a Blu-ray drive raises the base price of the Psystar Open Computer $310 to $864.99.
