Audi announced the A1 Sportback Concept, a car that looks to compete directly with the Mini Cooper, Autoblog reports. The A1 could one-up the Mini Cooper and Clubman due to its true five-door hatchback design, similar to a (slightly) shrunken Audi A3.
The report said that the concept seems to be fitted with a new mild hybrid powertrain, which consists of a 150-horsepower 1.4L TSI engine mated to a 27-horsepower electric motor. The car also includes Audi's S-Tronic dual clutch gearbox (which is basically a rebranded version of the excellent Volkswagen DSG unit). Audi is claiming that the car can achieve 60 mpg, but their parent company has lied before about this very thing, so take that with a grain of salt.
