oprah.jpgWho's America's most influential tech journalist? John Dvorak? Michael Arrington? Walt Mossberg? Wrong, wrong, and wrong again. You see, when Oprah Winfrey shows off a gadget during daytime TV, America listens.

The uber-popular talkshow host today gave a major plug to Amazon's Kindle e-book reader. Says Oprah's site, "This summer, Oprah received a gift that she says changed her life. 'I'm telling you, it is absolutely my new favorite thing in the world,' she says."

The site is offering $50 off for users who punch the code OPRAHWINFREY into Amazon, during checkout. Oprah fans will also get 10-percent off of The Story of Edgar Sawtelle.

If that kind of a ringing endorsement doesn't make e-books go mainstream, nothing will.

Hey - if that's what it takes to bring it into the mainstream (and maybe get Amazon working on a Kindle 2 that doesn't look horrible), I'm totally for it! Go Oprah!

I was seriously considering purchasing a Kindle until I became aware that this big mouth slug was endorsing them. Now I'm not so sure that I want one.

I think I don't care about anything Oprah endorses. In fact, if she endorses is, I definately won't buy it! Oprah, you're washed up. You and your big fat head

Oprah is why I'm voting for McCain. She's more impressed with herself than I am.

As an editor and writer who saw his first published story set in hot metal, I marvel at Amazon's Kindle reader and its role in the future of the "printed" word.

I'm thrilled to see Oprah endorse Kindle!

No traditional book can offer the interactive platform I've created for the Kindle edition of my novel Brazil or open the door to actively sharing the magic that goes into the making of a monumental novel.

I've linked the e-text to an online guide with more than 200 images and illustrations, providing an indispensable companion on a fictional journey through five hundred years of Brazilian history. Plus my working notes and journals kept on a 20,000 kilometer trek through that vast land.

You can preview the guide at my website: http://www.erroluys.com

Were Gutenberg here to see the Kindle, he would have one word to say: "Bravo!"

Wow- if the opinion of Oprah is enough to make people vote one way or decide against buying a perfectly good product just because she likes it, she's way more influential than I thought! Good on her - I think I'll look into a Kindle now. :)
