Nikon launched an odd new product in Japan this morning: a combination of headphones, Wi-Fi, video screen, onboard 8-GB storage and even a browser. The combination looks a little something like a Borg would wear, minus the bulky cans.
"In recent years, the digital wave has led to great changes in the ways in which images, videos and music are enjoyed," according to a Nikon press release. "Nikon recognizes the fact that modern people are now able to increase the value of time with the ability to access and enjoy information available with today's imaging and audio capabilities using a few minutes of spare time. Sitting comfortably on the head, this product allows immediate access to a variety of information as a device that can accompany users in their everyday lives."
I can't quite fathom what would possess someone to buy this, as opposed to a video-enabled Sony PSP, iPod, or Zune. But if you want to import this, you can head over to the Nikon store, where one can be had for as little as 59,800 yen ($584). More details are available at Gizmodo.
