Last year, we wrote about Phoenix Technologies' FailSafe, a BIOS-based suite of security tools to track, monitor, and disable stolen or missing PCs. This week, Phoenix revealed that notebooks from both Lenovo and Samsung would implement the technology.
Unfortunately, this is one of those "we just signed the contract" agreements; we don't have a list of the notebooks from each manufacturer that will include the technology, nor do we know when FailSafe will be added. For now, just keep an eye out.
"Mobile PC users with Phoenix FailSafe protection will have the most secure mobile computing experience characterized by encryption, data recovery, remote asset management, location tracking and device locking," said Woody Hobbs, the president and chief executive at Phoenix, in a statement. "Over the past few months, we have worked with processor, memory, disk and telecom partners to ensure that the Phoenix FailSafe platform is the most comprehensive offering available in the market today."
