Be careful with that accelerator pedal if you're in Italy: the winner of the award for the world's fastest police force (who knew?) goes to the Lazio Highway Police Department in Italy, AutoWeek reports. Lamborghini was on hand at the private ceremony to donate a brand-new Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 to the police force. A look at the interior proves that this isn't just an ordinary Gallardo with a paint job. (As if there were any ordinary Lamborghinis to begin with.)
The new car will be fitted with the "latest in high-tech police equipment, including video cameras, license-plate scanners and real-time connectivity to HQ. It also has a GPS tracker, with which the Lamborghini's speed, location and direction can be marked, along with the speed and time to intercept potential wrongdoers." It also has the usual radio, computer, gun holster and a set of handheld stop signs to use when pulling someone over.
The report said that the new Lamborghini will replace the force's first-generation Gallardo, which it received in 2004; they clocked 87,000 trouble free miles on that one, only performing scheduled maintenance during that time.
