Japanese cell phone company KDDI recently presented the "Portable Viewer System" prototype that's a combination of a cell phone and an electronic paper display. Using the system, the KDDI cell phone can wirelessly transmit images to the 13.1-inch color display. According to KDDI, this is the first technology in which images projected on the e-paper are stored on a cell phone.
The display uses Bridgestone Corp's Electronic Liquid Powder technology which can render 4,096 colors and takes approximately 12 seconds to form images on the screen. The display itself only has a power button since all other operations are carried out via the cell phone. KDDI's Portable Viewing System will be useful for sectors that need a means to display info without the risk of the data being tampered with (since it's stored remotely on the phone).
