Hands On with the BlackBerry Storm

The RIM BlackBerry is the ThinkPad of PDAs: practical, eminently useful, lacking in zing. As we were one of the first to point out, the iPhone was designed from the ground up as a media player. But just as the iPhone 3G brings Apple closer to the business market, so does the BlackBerry Storm add some kapow! to the purposeful BlackBerry line.

Tuesday morning, RIM confirmed that the BlackBerry Storm would appear on Verizon's network later this fall. (Pricing and exact availability will be left for future press releases, so as to maximize the Storm's impact.)

The Storm's flashiest feature is a clickable touchscreen, the first of its kind, which allows the Storm to mimic the feel of the older BlackBerry keyboards. But behind the Storm is the solid BlackBerry platform "that's poised to steal some of the iPhone's thunder in corporate circles and among those who prefer Verizon's network to AT&T's," according to reviewer Sascha Segan.
