Ford's upcoming MyKey system will let parents program the car's control computers in order to set limits on young drivers. According to AutoWeek, when engaged, the system limits the car to a top speed of 80 mph, and sounds warning chimes at 45, 55, and 65 mph.
The system also mutes the radio and chimes a warning for eternity until the seatbelt is buckled, the low fuel warning light comes on at 75 miles remaining instead of 50, and the volume on the radio is limited to 44 percent of maximum. Plus, MyKey also overrides any manual deactivation of safety systems such as traction control and blind spot detection. MyKey will be standard on the 2010 Ford Focus and be an option on some of the automaker's other models.
