DriveAssist is a new mobile application designed by Aegis Mobility to intercept all your incoming calls and text messages so that you can keep your hands on the steering wheel and your eyes on the road ahead.
Despite recently enacted laws against using cell phones behind the wheel -- already on the books in several states -- many motorists continue to drive and dial. According to the Information Week, "just last month in California, 25 people were killed when a train engineer missed a signal because he was busy sending text messages ." In fact, David D. Teater, Aegis Vice President and CFO, has had a very personal experience with reckless cell phone use. In 2004 his youngest son Joe was killed in a traffic accident, when a distracted driver on a cell phone ran a red light.
Out of this tragedy came DriveAssist, which automatically detects when the cell phone is in a moving vehicle, captures all inbound calls and text messages, and holds them until the vehicle stops. As long as the car is in motion, all calls and messages are routed to Aegis' mobile network and returned to the user the moment the program's ContextEngine senses a complete stop.
