As a child, I sometimes wondered what it would be like to go around the circle on my life-like train set. Riding the Maglev Personal Transport may be the closest thing to that experience for an adult.
Presented by Tyco Electronics and Gakken at CEATEC in Japan, the Maglev (magnetic levitation) transport follows the same principle as the full scale high-speed trains currently in operation in Europe and Asia. The vehicle hovers several inches over the magnetic monorail, hurling itself forward without friction. Still, other than evoking childhood nostalgia, this train set does not do much and is strictly a show toy for grownups. Real-world deployment of personal Maglevs would call for a separate network of magnetic monorails, since you probably do not want to cross paths with real Maglevs, all averaging 300 mph.
