Audi of America announced plans to offer HD Radio technology as a standard feature in many of its vehicles beginning with 2011 models, which should start arriving in dealerships sometime in 2010. HD Radio currently offers more than 1,800 AM and FM stations and over 900 new multicast channels (HD2/HD3) on the FM dial.
HD Radio is sometimes misunderstood. It's subscription-free and offers digitally-delivered music, news, and entertainment formats. But it's also subject to the same range problems that plague terrestrial analog FM stations (i.e. it's not satellite radio, where you can listen to it anywhere but have to pay a monthly fee for access).
HD Radio also supports data delivery, meaning that you can see text information with song titles, artist names, real-time traffic/weather updates, movie listings, sports scores, stock quotes, school closings and emergency alerts.
