Audi is showing off its latest green car, the A1 Sportback Hybrid, Engadget reports. The company is touting some impressive performance numbers, including a 0-62 MPH in 7.9 seconds, a top speed of 124 MPH, and 72.4 mpg of average fuel economy. There's some serious tech going on underneath the skin, too.

"The adjustable drivetrain / drive shaft / shock absorber system allows drivers to choose between two modes: sport mode (for optimum acceleration) and efficiency mode," the report said. "The latter not only makes best use of the lithium-ion battery but also ties into the vehicle's on-board navigation, taking your route (and the car's altitude) into consideration when computing things like power usage and regeneration phases."

The report also said the A1 lets certain model cellphones act as a mobile control unit for WLAN access to the vehicle's navigation, audio, and remote monitoring of the car's security system. In full electric mode, Audi claims the car can travel more than 60 miles on a single charge, which puts it ahead of Chevy's claims for the Volt. To be sure, it's vaporware until it's on the road and testable, but it certainly sounds good.
